From Publishers Weekly
Deserving of a better subtitle, dermatologist-to-the-stars Wu's first book is packed with helpful tips. Dense but highly readable, the tome is split into four sections: a look at our largest organ, the skin; a guide to skin disorders accompanied by Wu's insights into foods both helpful and harmful for treating them; four weeks' worth of menu suggestions; and a quickie primer to homemade skincare products. Wu also includes a guide to Botox and other small-scale surgical interventions. The author is refreshingly honest and approachable. She enjoys having a tan, for instance, and doesn't see the point in telling her patients to wear long sleeves outdoors at any hour of the day. Though urging readers to eat organic, minimally-processed food is hardly a breakthrough, Wu's case for doing so is well-explained and easy to implement. The calm, sensible approach she takes here will be appreciated by anyone in search of perfect-or at least better-skin. Photos.

Review
“The key to looking younger - as I have learned from Dr. Wu - isn't copious amounts of Botox or even plastic surgery, it's a diet that will improve your skin from the inside out, as her Feed Your Face Diet has done for me. My skin looks radiant, smooth, and ten years younger.” ―Maria Bello, actress

Superb book, plenty of great tips, and a very smooth read.
By Luke
Dr. Jessica Wu definitely makes reading her book a breeze by keeping the audience engaged and offering some savvy tips.

About two years ago I chose to really turn my life around and start to exercise, eat a well balanced and nutritionally dense diet, and overall just take care of myself.

I got this book because before I decided to turn my life around, I was breaking out very frequently, and often had cystic acne or painful pimples all over my face, which started since I was about 14 (I'm almost 20 now). Not only was this a real confidence killer but it was also painful. I've read in many places (years ago) that diet has nothing to do with skin health and that it's best to treat breakouts with medication. Wrong, and wrong (well mostly). When I turned 16 I had visited my second dermatologist (the first was a money vacuum and very rude). He had recommended I go on Doxycycline and try a topical treatment along with it. Although my face cleared up very quickly and I had become fairly more confident with myself, I had found myself dependent on the medication to keep myself clear, which was ridiculous because who the heck at 16 wants to take an antibiotic a day for a long period of time? Anyways, a year in (when I turned 17), I started to become greatly intrigued by nutrition and health (which is when I also found this book). I decided to go to my dermatologist for one last time (really nice guy though, not to discredit him) and he wanted to put me on Accutane. I signed the form but something told me I should not do it. I didn't. I went home and read about the medication and went on forums for countless hours. I didn't want to be destructive to my health anymore (needless to say I never went back to the dermatologist). I picked up this book and wow was it great! I had already started to cut out a lot of crap from my diet, but never did I consider dairy could also be a large contributor to my breakouts. Anyways, didn't just get this book because of my breakouts, also got it because it's full of great tips and dietary information (still do your research, although Dr. Wu does a great job in backing herself up). For example, Lycopene helps act as an extra protection from sunburn. (Haven't gotten sunburned since in the Summer)

Back to the acne anyways, so although I did not follow the diet outlined in the book (I'm a college student on a budget and the amount I attribute to my health and fitness which isn't sucked up by tuition I tend to use to buy plant-derived protein and vegetables). Anyways, there is so much crap that we consume that we're not aware the effects of. High Corn Fructose Syrup (haven't had soda in over 10 years so I didn't ever think of researching the ingredient) being one of them, fillers, artificial soy, and the list goes on and on. Although this book was only one of my many resources in becoming a health nut, I really appreciate Dr. Wu's recommendations and great blog-style writing.

Needless to say, after I cut out most dairy from diet, exercised regularly for two years now, and really started taking care of myself my skin is a lot more clear, I'm not dependent on any medication, I rarely ever get sick, I don't feel tired, and I feel generally great all the time (haven't had a stomach ache or headache in years).

I definitely recommend this book as a stepping stone, especially if you have skin issues (not just acne; eczema, rosacea, etc...). Never did this book ever feel like an advertisement to me either (as Dr. Wu apparently has a whole line of products). I agree with about 90% of everything she details, and all of it is backed up by research.

Thanks for reading!

Very well written, thoughtful with some great info
By Jack
As a physician, I'm always interested in reading books by other doctors. Dr. Jessica Wu is a prominent celebrity dermatologist based in Beverly Hills. I've seen her on several television programs, and thought I'd pick up this book. Dr. Wu basically gives a very detailed description of how you can look younger, healthier, and improve your skin by changing what you eat. She explains the glycemic index, and how eating foods too high in sugar can result in inflammation, leading to acne, dry skin, and wrinkles. Throughout the book she includes celebrity stories, and how certain celebs have improved their complexion and appearance by following certain dietary guidelines.

This book is complete, well-written, entertaining, and chock-full of useful information with a scientific basis. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am going to rethink how I eat as I continue to get older.

If you enjoy this book, I recommend that you consider 7 Years Younger: The Revolutionary 7-Week Anti-Aging Plan, a recent best-seller by the editors of Good Housekeeping. It's an information-packed reference full of tips to look younger, be healthier, and reduce aging. It's very easy to read, and a great resource.

I also recommend Dr. Jennifer Ashton's Your Body Beautiful: Clockstopping Secrets to Staying Healthy, Strong, and Sexy in Your 30s, 40s, and Beyond. It's a great guide for my women patients to be healthier, look better, and reduce their risk of age-related medical problems. Very well-written, scientifically and medically supported information.

A little fluffy...
By Vicki Chuang
I did not enjoy reading this book. I don't attribute the lack of results in my case to the book containing bad advice, as not everything works on everyone. I simply found the book irritating to read, and ended up just jotting down the basic ideas to get through it as quickly as possible. While I'm sure the author is perfectly competent in her practice and I don't see the advice she's given as being bad in any way, I found it annoying to read about all the famous people she worked with, etc. That is nice, but irrelevant. I honestly don't care about how many celebrities you work with. I just need well-reasoned advice. That said, it was a quick and light read and I got through it in a couple of evenings. If someone lends it to you or something, by all means go for it. I just wouldn't purchase it again. I donated my copy to the local library.
