A business book that delivers Q & As, with case studies to reinforce key principles and drive home core competences

A book that is geared toward the post graduate business student, as well as those entrepreneurial types who want gain insight as well core competencies that lead to being an effective entrepreneurial success. This is a readable text that gives the reader, a set of useful key summaries at the end of each topic section. This is done by the use of Q and A's to help reinforce areas of good practice as well as the essential tools, this then should hopefully deliver the message home. Certain areas that are discussed are; are how to exploit business developments, how to foster innovation, how to get supplementary funding for growth and where do entrepreneurial opportunities arise? There are also methodologies on how to exploit trends in the market place, and how and to foster innovation in the first place.

There is a lot here to better understand the successfully driven entrepreneurial process. In short there anecdotes as well as the authors 'other ideas', and it seems this has not gone down well has been critiqued negatively by one or two reviewers. However, this should not detract from the central tenets that of applied coverage on an array of key issues. As well as management on how to successfully address each of core competencies covered. At the end of the day the reader decides what he or she gleans from the text. This book is readable and not stuffy or stifling it does not roll out the same examples and company types, but rather gives an engaging format that delivers.

Poor organization and flow

This book was a difficult read. The content isn't particularly difficult, but the book's organization and scattered subject matter made it difficult to get through. Though I read the book cover to cover, I often felt I was rereading material.

For example, his 21-page treatment of "Players- Hackers, Crackers, etc." conveyed no more information than did his 6-page overview of them in his Introduction. Even so, I have the distinct impression that the most he's ever seen of a "hacker" is on TV.

My background in this topic has been purely educational (that is to say I've taken 1 forensics class) and I have to agree that there are several books that cover the topic more clearly and more in depth than this one.

My recommendation... go to your local library or book store and spend 30 minutes reading the Introduction, you won't be missing much.

Excellent, readable biography of the poster-child Viking

OK, so "readable" is a relative term, but this is a fine book. As noted by another reviewer, this is not a novel; it is thoroughly researched and told in painstaking detail but is not dry by any means. Marsden has done a great service to fans of Norse history by revealing the extraordinary life of Harald Hardrada - whose remarkable fate put him at historic crossroads repeatedly and made him the last Norse king of the Viking Age. The telling of his life contains all the ingredients of the best historical fiction, except that it's true, as Marsden so credibly relates. This is the Norse/Viking experience in spades - singular, powerful characters, royal intrigue, ambition, vengeance, travels to foreign lands, fierce battles - all set in the rich historical years that close out the Viking Age. It is particularly interesting in showing how much of the Norse/Viking story lives in the lands to the east of Scandinavia, in the founding of what would become the Russian empire and in the story of the Byzantine empire at the crossroads of Asia and Europe.

That said, this book is a detailed reference work, told in a measured voice. While it lacks the enthusiastic and sometimes challenging prose of Brent's, The Viking Saga, the telling of Hardrata's life and times by Marsden is in another class entirely - expertly done and a valuable contribution to historical literature.

Informative, enjoyable read for history buffs

I just ordered this book a few weeks ago and didn't really know what to expect because I couldn't find any reviews for it, but upon reading it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Most general history books on Hardrada's era relegate him to peripheral status, a footnote as "the other would-be King" of 1066, and a comprehensive biography of the man has been long overdue for years now.

But with "The Warrior's Way," John Marsden has filled this void capably, painting a complete portrait of the man all the way from his childhood to his death at Stamford Bridge. It's a VERY thorough examination of Harald's life that separates the facts of his life from the exaggerations of his skalds. Marsden has painstakingly examined every last shred of historical data available in his research. If you, like me, enjoy learning about the obscure little minutiae of the old Viking kings, you'll love this book.
He provides a very detailed, thorough account of the Battle of Stiklestad, and he paints a vivid portrait of Hardrada's service as a Varangian in Rus and Byzantium. He uses a broad range of sources that must have been difficult to sort through and compose in an easy-to-read fashion, but Marsden managed to pack in plenty of information without confusing the reader.

I don't have any complaints about the book, but I'm a history buff who prefers a flood of raw facts, even if they come at the expense of the narrative. I like to read primary sources, and I rarely read novels, so I don't mind plowing through dry prose that other people might find tedious.
Marsden's book was written for readers like me; his storytelling is pretty direct and to-the-point, and he doesn't waste time with colorful or suspenseful prose.

That's why I put "enjoyable read for history buffs" in the title of this review. If you are a history buff who wants an informative account of the life and times of Harald Hardrada, you'll like this book, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a better biography of Hardrada anywhere.
But if you want an enthralling novel about a Viking king that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this might not be the type of book you are looking for.

A really interesting look at Harald's life through the focus ...

A really interesting look at Harald's life through the focus on his military experiences and campaigns. I especially appreciate the author's setting things in a coherent timeline with explanations not only about what the original sources say but what they don't say as well. If you want a solid book about a spectacularly overlooked historical warrior, try this one.

My main take away from this entire book so far is that Harald Hardrada needs his own Hollywood movie, because a Hollywood movie will never be as outlandish as his actual life. Unless they add a talking horse. ... Actually, a talking horse still wouldn't be as crazy as a 19 year old Viking Prince sailing into Byzantium with 500 warriors and taking a job with the Emperor's Varangian corps, working his way up to one of the captains a few years later on getting to personally blind an actual Emperor. In the street. In broad daylight. Because that happened. ... And then he sneaks out of Byzantium in the middle of the night to go pillaging his way back to Norway and reconquer his dead brother's kingdom. In eighteen months. Because that happens too.

How long would it take YOU to conquer a kingdom of dark ages vikings, do you think?

Look, you should read about him and make your own opinion. I'm just saying that Harald Hardrada was probably Dark Ages Jason Bourne and Machiavelli in a blender. Shame about that unfortunate timing in 1066. If he'd landed after William of Normandy, history would probably have gone a lot differently.

Dr. Vincent C. Giampapa is a Board Certified Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon and Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is the Director of the Plastic Surgery Center Internationale and The Giampapa Institute for Anti-Aging Medical Therapy. Dr. Giampapa received his M.D. degree from Mt. Sinai Medical School in New York City, New York and continued his medical training in aesthetic plastic surgery. Upon becoming a certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Giampapa completed a year of microsurgery and hand fellowship at New York University Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Founding Member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and served as President of the American Board of Anti-Aging Medicine. He was one of the first Board Certified anti-aging aesthetic plastic surgeons in the world. Excellent resource for really connecting with your spouse

This book is not what you think. It is truly a way to connect with you spouse and learn how the opposite sex thinks and feels. I have grown so much closer to my spouse by reading this together. Especially since we have opposite daily schedules and don't have much time to be together. We've learned to really maximize our experience and love together from reading this. I highly recommend it to all married couples!

I love this book!!!

I have purchased this book several times to hand out as a gift. The story is short and sweet but has left a permanent reminder that everything can change based on your perspective. Recently I bought several copies at once just to hand out as a way to get other people to read the book that changed my life! It will only take a few hours if you read slow or you can read it in a short sitting if you are a fast reader! I recommend more people to be exposed to this book and it can change the way you see things. It is not religious and ultimately it points out that the lesson may be that what you see is not always what you get. What matters is.... How will you handle it? My favorite quote from the book is "Every problem brings a gift."

Good entertaining book and good primer for many concepts and ...

Richard Bach writes novels infused with knowledge from different schools of thought as intrinsic part of the story. He does not try to convince you or cram his believes down your throat. He places the knowledge out there and allows you to select and use it if you so desire or totally treat it as entertaining. Self awareness is important for him and appears many times on this book. Good entertaining book and good primer for many concepts and philosophies out in the world. Some passages stimulate your curiosity and make you question the veracity of many concepts out in the world; but as it expressed in the book. the choice is yours.

There really isn't much more I can say about it other than it's one of the best books I've read in my entire life

I don't even know how to begin reviewing this masterpiece. From the very first words, I knew something was different about this author. The pull you feel from this book just gets stronger and stronger the deeper you go. I had intense chills running down my spine when I finished it. There really isn't much more I can say about it other than it's one of the best books I've read in my entire life. Richard Bach is an absolute master story teller. Never have I received so much wisdom from such a short read. Buy this, read this, if that is what you truly want to do.
